NaBloPoMo 8/30: Christmas village!

Christmas has always been my most favorite holiday. I know some people hate the blatant commercialism, but I LOVE IT. I love decorating the house, buying people presents, making special Christmas baked goods, listening to Christmas music, looking at the ornate Christmas displays in stores that start popping up in September (bring 'em on!), sending and receiving Christmas cards, watching cheesy Christmas specials -- the list goes on and on.

One of the things I dreamed about for nearly a decade was the idea of creating and sharing special Christmas traditions with my own children. It took a lot longer to get here than expected, and so I had a lot of time to think about it! But now Carter is getting old enough to participate in the excitement of the holiday season, and I'm so excited!

Something I've wanted to do for years was have a little lit Christmas village display. I didn't have a good place to display one before, but now that I've reorganized the foyer, I have a perfect spot: a table near the door that usually holds a floral arrangement and photos.

Carter and I had a great time picking out the pieces for our village and setting them up. He's mangled a few trees already (they're not really built to withstand a small child playing with them), but it's all good. They're replaceable, and the important thing is that we all enjoy it.

And so I present our very first Christmas village!

Carter was excited about the fire station.

And if course, this Christmas tree was a big hit. Especially since it's very easy to turn on and off and on and off and...

We ate some Hershey's kisses right before this was taken, so there's a little chocolate in this smile.

It's so cool! :-)
