November 8: Chinese food

It's funny how differently I view weekends now than I did just a year ago. Weekends used to be opportunities to travel, or to spend the day out and about. We would often fix gourmet meals that would take all day to shop for and prepare. These days, weekends center around naps, mostly, and any outings are carefully choreographed so as to make as few stops as possible.

Today's outing was to a Chinese restaurant for lunch and then to the grocery store. It's amazing, but just that hour and a half was enough for me to have tremendous fun. We went to one of our favorite Chinese restaurants, one we haven't been to in a while.

For a while it was difficult to go out to eat with Carter because he needed to be held and entertained the entire time. But now that he can sit in the high chair and eat a little bit, it's made it a lot easier for us to go out. We just feed him things off of our plates, and he basically plays while we have our meal. Here he is having some rice and some bok choy. He mostly played with the rice and dropped it on the floor, but he sucked the juice out of the bok choy for quite a while. He really likes green vegetables!

Here he is with Doug, who never looks happy to have his picture taken.

After that we went to the grocery store, and it was just pleasant to walk around the store with Carter in the sling. He really likes being carried around, and he can look at everything from a safe place. The store is getting ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas, so they had a lot of samples out.

It's hard to believe the holidays are going to be here so soon. I want to do things to make Carter's first Thanksgiving and Christmas extra special. I'm going to have to get moving on that...

Oh, and Carter is 10 months old today. :-)
