Surgery tomorrow

Tomorrow is Carter's hernia surgery. We're supposed to be at Dell Children's Hospital at 6:30 am for his surgery at 8:00 am. I'm glad it's early -- I'm ready to get it over with. He's been having some pain when he tries to poop, and once when I was changing his diaper I could actually see the hernia pop out when he strained. He cries as if he's in horrible pain, and there's nothing we can do about it.

We can feed him breastmilk until 2:30 am, and then he can have pedialyte until 4:30 am. Those times are earlier than I was expecting (I'd read 4 hours for milk and 2 hours for clear fluids, both prior to the time of surgery, not the time of check-in), but we can live with it. I assume they'll be hooking him up to an IV pretty soon after we get there.

I'm a little nervous about seeing my baby back in the hospital, hooked up to things again. I don't know how it will feel after all that time in the NICU. I'm so used to having him at home and having him to myself that it will be weird to have to work around doctors and nurses again. But it's just for one day. They'll keep him overnight and then we can go home on Wednesday morning.

The hospital has wireless, so I'll post an update from there.

*hugs to you, Doug, and Carter* I'm sure everything will go swimmingly -- both my husband and my brother had hernia surgery as infants, and it went fine. I'm sure in the last 30 years the procedures have only gotten easier on the little ones!

Great Aunt Bonnie will keep you in my prayers tomorrow. I know with everything Carter has already been through, this will go well also. Carter has proven that he is strong and can get through this type of procedure. I know he will feel much better when it is over.
Let us know as soon as it is over.
Love ya,
Bonnie
