Trip to Fort Morgan part 2

Here are a few more pictures from our trip to Fort Morgan last weekend. I meant to post these earlier, but this was the first week of classes and I've been swamped for the last few days.

Carter has recently started loving watching videos, and he's particularly fond of the Baby Einstein videos. I avoided letting him watch TV or videos for the first year, and meant to wait until he was 2 before introducing any of it (per AAP recommendations), but that's really hard to do when your own entertainment centers around watching TV as much as mine does. A little after he turned 1, I bought a math-oriented BE video, and he watched it for a few minutes before losing interest. Every now and then I would show him a video, with the same results. He wasn't really interested, and I was relieved! And then in the last few weeks, he's suddenly much more interested. He requests specific videos, and likes watching them on a small player. Watching a video is now part of our pre-nap routine, and we take the player and a few videos when we travel.

I've also finally relented and will occasionally park the TV on Noggin instead of the standard CNN (which Carter ignores). There are a few shows I actually like, like Yo Gabba Gabba and Ni Hao, Kai-Lan. Most of the shows are more geared toward preschoolers than toddlers, so we usually stick to BE.

Here are a few pictures of Carter and Doug playing in Doug's parents' yard:

It's amazing how easy it is to entertain toddlers at this age. Carter played for hours with things he found in the yard, like buckets and ceramic bunnies. He figured out that he could slide down this angled basement door:

On Monday we went to a park to let Carter play on a playground. There was a big pond with geese and ducks, and we brought bread to feed them. I had expected Carter to be afraid of the birds (many of which were bigger than him), but he wasn't. He seemed to get a kick out of feeding them.

We had a good time on our trip, and I think Carter especially enjoyed all the outside time!

He's been sick for the last couple of days with some sort of infection, so we've been taking it easy. He has a fever and is a little cranky from that, but no other symptoms. The doctor said to bring him in on Monday if it doesn't clear up on its own, so in the meantime we're pretty much snuggling on the couch and watching videos. And nursing, nursing, nursing! It's so comforting to him, and it's an incredible relief to me to be able to do something for him when he feels bad. Not to mention that I know he's getting hydration and nutrition at a time when he otherwise doesn't have much of an appetite.

Welcome to Noggin! We also watch Sprout too, I know its probably not the best, but I don't know what we would do without it! I can't get over how much he looks like you in some of these pics! He's such a good mixture of you both! Can't wait to see you in a few days!
