Carter in New York, part 2; dentist; Gymboree

Here are a few more New York pictures. If I get any from Michelle I'll post them later on.

Tuesday after noon we headed down to the lower east side. We walked around in the chilly air and looked at people and buildings.

We went to Rice to Riches, a rice pudding store. Yes, they serve 20 flavors of rice pudding! It's amazing! Carter sampled some, and loved it.

Then we had mediocre Italian food in Little Italy. At this point, I should know better then to eat there and expect it to be any good, but it was still fun.

We topped off the night by walking around Times Square before we went back to the hotel to pack up and turn in for the night.

The flight the next day went fine. Carter is a good flyer, and that was his 31st flight! We took the nonstop on Jet Blue between JFK and Austin, and that was SO much nicer than changing planes in Dallas!

This (Thursday) morning, Carter had his first dentist's appointment. He chipped both his front teeth in the last month (I have no idea how!), and I was concerned that he might have soft enamel, as many preemies do. But the dentist said his enamel looked perfectly normal, to my relief. He said there was no need to do anything about the chips, that Carter would file them down as he chews on things.

Carter got his teeth cleaned (a good brushing with some special toothpaste), and a flouride treatment, neither of which he was very happy about. It didn't take long, though, and at least I know his teeth are in good shape. They gave us (well, sold us, actually) some special anti-bacterial toothpaste, so we'll try that out tonight. Carter also got a new toothbrush, and a little rubber ducky.

We also went to try out a Gymboree class this morning, which was a lot of fun. Except that I misremembered the time, and we went to a 16-22 month class instead of the 10-16 month class we were supposed to go to! It was fine, though Carter was the only one crawling, and a lot smaller than the other kids. He liked climbing around on all the equipment, and enjoyed watching the older kids. We're going to go back next week and do the correct class, and I think we'll sign up. He doesn't have a lot of chances to interact with other kids, so I think it will be really good for him to go to a structured class like this.

That's all for now. :-)
