Carter in New York, part 1

We got here on Friday evening, and this is the first chance I've had to get online! I've been using my cell phone to check Facebook and email, but didn't have time to do much else. It's been a lot of fun so far! Today is our last day, and right now Carter is taking a nap, and I finally had a chance to download some pictures from the camera and get some of them posted.

We used to go to New York several times a year and go to as many plays as we could in a single weekend. We decided to invite Carter's nanny Michelle along for this trip, and that allowed us to go to the theatre some. It worked out really well, and Michelle seemed to enjoy herself a lot. On Saturday and Sunday, we spent the morning hanging out with Carter, then went out for an interesting lunch, and then Michelle took Carter for the afternoon while Doug and I went to a matinee. After that we'd meet for dinner and then Michelle would take care of Carter while we went to an evening show. While we were at the theatre, Carter and Michelle explored Central Park, Times Square, and generally had lots of fun. I'll post some of her pictures when I get them, but in the meantime, here our the ones I've taken so far.

We have some similar pictures from our weekend in Seattle last fall of Carter looking out the hotel room window:

Carter learned how much fun it was to unroll the toilet paper in the hotel bathroom. We keep the bathroom doors closed at home, so he hasn't had such free access to the toilet paper before!

I have a video of that too, LOL:

Here we are riding in a cab. You don't have to use car seats in taxis or buses, and it feels really weird to just hold your baby. (Some people refuse to take taxis with babies because if you're in an accident, there's nothing restraining your child at all.)

On Saturday we went down to Chinatown for dim sum for lunch. Carter got to try some dumplings and tofu, and he really seemed to like them.

Here Michelle is holding him (she joined us for lunch):

Carter has always liked cities, and New York was no exception. He loves to watch the cars and the people and stare up at the tall buildings. Here we are out and about:

Part of the reason for our trip was that we had again won a chance to co-host with Seth Rudetsky on his Sirius/XM radio show (through a charity auction). I'll let everyone know when it airs so you can listen if you like. We went to the Sirius studios on Sunday morning to record the show with Seth. (Seth wrote about us in his Playbill article here, hee!) Of course, I managed to forget to get a picture of all of us with Seth, but here are a few of Carter checking out the Sirius offices:

He was REALLY interested in the equipment in the recording studio!

On Monday we went to one of our favorite restaurants, Lupa. It's one of Mario Batali's restaurants, and is rustic Italian. Yum!

Michelle had to go back to Austin this (Tuesday) morning, and so we spent today doing fun stuff with Carter. This morning we went to the Children's Museum of Manhattan, where Carter had lots of fun.

I like this one, with Doug in the background.

He really had a lot of fun! It was interesting to be there on a Tuesday morning. It was really busy, but mostly with nannies who had brought their charges. He was one of the younger kids there. Here is a cute video of him playing with this thing that popped colorful packing peanuts:

And here he is all crashed in the hotel room this afternoon:

He just woke up from that nap, and we're going to go out for the afternoon. We head home tomorrow, and I'll post more pictures when we get home.

Toilet paper seems to be very popular with babies. I love that you got it on camera.
It looks like you guys are having a lot of fun. Carter seems to be taking it all in well. That picture of him napping is so sweet. Cannot wait to see you guys again. He just keeps growing so much. Have a safe trip back. Love, Julie
