Adventures in Babywearing

I know I've said it before many times, but I really love babywearing. I love having Carter snuggled against me when we're out, so that I can pat his back or kiss his forehead easily. He falls into such a deep sleep in the wrap that even loud noises don't bother him. He only starts to get cranky when he's hungry, heh. I've never carried him anywhere in the car seat, and we don't even own a stroller. I would just rather carry him, and he seems to be happy to be held. Now that he's starting to become more aware of his surroundings he likes to look around, and from the vantage point of my chest he has a great view. And when he wants to go to sleep, he just lays his head down and snuggles in. It's perfect. :-)

I always get comments on the wrap when I'm out and about. I've only ever gotten one negative comment, from an old woman who told me I was "smothering that baby". Yeah, he really looked like he was suffocating all snug and asleep on my chest. o_0 A few other older women have given me strange looks, but for the most part people comment on how sweet and comfy he looks, and say they wish they'd had things like that when their kids were babies. I never bother to explain that they did, that women have been carrying their babies like this for thousands of years. Cause, you know.

I used to see women wearing babies all the time, but since Carter was born I haven't seen many. Maybe that's because I used to spend a lot more time downtown. Now I barely venture out of the 'burbs.

Anyway, today we went to Target so I could look for some linen pants for summer. Since I've lost so much weight, none of my pants from last year fit. Such a tragedy, right? Anyway, we got to Target and I had no sooner gotten Carter snugged into the wrap when he spit up. A lot. I could feel it dripping down between my breasts, and there was nothing I could do about it. And yes, he grinned. ;-) I wiped up his face and we continued on.

I found some pants (along with some other things that I probably didn't need but tossed in the cart anyway; OMG Target is so inexpensive) and the woman running the dressing room seemed perplexed that I was going to try on pants with Carter strapped to my chest. Which I did, and it was no problem at all. And though I brought two sizes into the dressing room, the SMALLER ones fit me. Yay, breastfeeding!

Carter was zonked when I put him in the car seat, and slept all the way home, which is unusual. He hates the car seat, and rides home can be particularly non-fun.

Which brings me full circle. Babywearing = Awesome. :-)

I think the sling is awesome. I wish I had of used one. Now Mattison is too big and wiggly. I do agree wearing him has to be much easier than carrying him around. You have your hands free to do the things you need to do. Those old ladies were just jealous! HA I see women here in Raleigh wearing their babies all the time. I think it is sweet.
Congrats on the weight loss. You look great! I look forward to seeing you and Carter in a couple of weeks. We will all have so much fun at the beach!
Love,
Julie
